“The First Principles and Ordinances of the Gospel”
Joseph Smith said:
“When you climb up a ladder, you must begin at the bottom, and ascend step by step, until you arrive at the top; and so it is with the principles of the Gospel—you must begin with the first, and go on until you learn all the principles of exaltation. But it will be a great while after you have passed through the veil before you will have learned them. It is not all to be comprehended in this world; it will be a great work to learn our salvation and exaltation even beyond the grave.” (Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, Section Six 1843-44, p.348 )
The Lord restored the gospel through the Prophet Joseph Smith “line upon line, precept upon precept” (D&C 128:21). Some of the first truths to be restored were the first principles and ordinances of the gospel.
4th Article of Faith:
We believe that the first principles and ordinances of the Gospel are: first, Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; second, Repentance; third, Baptism by immersion for the remission of sins; fourth, Laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost.
This lesson discusses the first principles and ordinances of the gospel. Through faith, repentance, baptism, and the gift of the Holy Ghost, we are better able to see our eternal path and purpose while in mortality.
Here is the handout for this lesson: D&C-Church History Lesson 7.

I served a Mission, I was kicked out of my parents’ home because I joined the Church, I married in the Temple and my children are baptized. We always kept the rules but we have been psychologically abused by leaders time and time again to the point that we decided that for our spiritual wellbeing we should not go to Church anymore. Since then we have found joy in our lives. Endure to the end doesn’t mean continuing to be mistreated as our leader told us. It’s not listening from our Bishop that he prefers that we stay home. So, to sustain him we stay home and finally we are happy. We don’t cry anymore on Sundays but we continue to keep the Sabbath day holy.
The Lord asked us to forgive but never to continue searching the company of those who mistreat us.
