Lesson #11 -“Press Forward with a Steadfastness in Christ”, 2 Nephi 31-33
“Following these invitations to faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, repentance, baptism, and receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost, Nephi again eloquently asked for endurance, persistence, and perseverance. Every reader of the Book of Mormon thrills at this summary of the first principles of the gospel, one of the many truly majestic passages in the Book of Mormon! ‘And now, my beloved brethren, after ye have gotten into this strait and narrow path, I would ask if all is done? Behold, I say unto you, Nay; for ye have not come thus far save it were by the word of Christ with unshaken faith in him, relying wholly upon the merits of him who is mighty to save’ (2 Ne. 31:19).”
Jeffrey R. Holland, Christ and the New Covenant:The Messianic Message of the Book of Mormon,[Salt Lake City: Deseret Book, 1997], 54.
Chapters 31-33 represent the conclusion of Nephi’s great record. Transitioning from the workings of the Lord in the future to the practicalities of living the gospel, Nephi proclaims with surpassing clarity what one must do to obtain eternal life. He provides a brilliant collection of principles for realizing eternal life.
