GM1 Gospel Doctrine – Book of Mormon Lesson #7 [Sunday, 24 Feb 2008]

Lesson #7 - “I Know in Whom I Have Trusted”, 2 Nephi 3-5

“Essentially every event or person in the Book of Mormon may well remind us of another event or person; the book is like a beautifully composed symphony with repeated themes and motifs.”

Richard Dilworth Rust, Feasting on the Word, The Literary Testimony of the Book of Mormon, p. 196

In this lesson Lehi teaches that his descendants will be blessed through the Prophet Joseph Smith and the Book of Mormon. We review “the Psalm of Nephi”. Soon after Lehi’s death, “Laman and Lemuel and the sons of Ishmael were angry with [Nephi] because of the admonitions of the Lord”. As Nephi wrote of these continuing difficulties, he recorded his feelings in a passage that is sometimes called “the Psalm of Nephi.” Finally, we read of the separation of the followers of Nephi and those of Laman.
